What stays local and what gets stored
Playing without an account
The clock works without an account. Guest game history and preferences use storage in that browser and can be cleared from the dashboard. They are not public profile pages.
Optional account data
If you continue with Google, ChessClock.now stores your verified Google email, display name, Google account identifier and game summaries so the private dashboard can show your history. The site does not receive or store your Google password and does not sell personal information.
Invite rooms
An invite room holds the shared game state and player chat temporarily. Rooms expire automatically after six hours. Anyone with a valid room link can view its board as a spectator, while only players with the temporary tokens can move pieces or read and send chat.
Visitor measurement
ChessClock.now uses Clicky, an analytics service from Roxr Software, to count visits and see which pages people use. Clicky records the page address, the referring link, the browser and device type and an approximate location, and it sets cookies for that purpose. It is not used for advertising, and it does not receive your game history, your invite room contents, your chat or any Bluetooth device data. Browser settings that block analytics scripts stop this collection, and the clock keeps working without it.
Bluetooth discovery
Bluetooth device discovery begins only after an explicit browser prompt. Nearby-device data is handled by the browser and is not uploaded to ChessClock.now by the Bluetooth clock page. Remote-control key presses and board positions stay in the browser as well.
