Quick match pairs you with another person searching for the same time control.

Choose how the game begins

Both paths lead to the same complete chess room. The difference is how your opponent reaches the other side of the board.

Find someone now

Quick Match looks for another person who selected the same time control. The player who waited first receives White; the next compatible player receives Black.

Invite someone you know

Create a temporary room, copy its short link and send it directly to a friend. You hold White and the first person to join takes Black.

  • Short six-character room code
  • Same legal board and live clocks
  • Additional visitors can spectate

One position. Two screens. No guesswork.

Every move is checked by the server before the shared position changes. Turn ownership, clocks and the score sheet update from the same room state, so neither player can move the other color or skip the opponent's turn.

Castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate, repetition and the fifty-move rule are handled by the playable board. When the result is decided, the room stops both clocks and records the outcome.

From pairing to checkmate

The room keeps the board and the clock in one continuous match. If the numbers are unfamiliar, compare chess time controls before choosing a pace.

Meet at the same pace

Select bullet, blitz, rapid or classical time. Quick Match pairs equal controls; an invite carries the creator's setting into the room.

Play on an enforced board

White moves first. Select a piece, choose a highlighted legal destination and let the board send the move to both screens.

Talk without leaving the game

Chat is available only to the two authenticated players. Messages are plain text, length-limited and rate-limited.

Finish on the board or clock

Checkmate, draw, resignation and flag fall stop the game. Finished game summaries can be kept in your browser or account dashboard.

Temporary by design

Online rooms are unlisted and excluded from search engines. Room data and player chat are automatically removed with the room after six hours.

Honest privacy boundaries

Anyone who obtains a valid room link can see the board as a spectator, but only the two player tokens can move pieces or read and send chat messages. Read the privacy policy.

No account required

A display name is enough to begin. Registration is optional and is only needed when you want account-backed game history.

Questions before your first game

These answers describe the room behavior implemented on this site.

What happens if Quick Match cannot find anyone?

The search ends after two minutes and recommends creating a private invite. You can also change the time control and search again.

Can I reload during a game?

Yes. A reload in the same browser tab keeps its temporary player token and restores the current room position. Do not share browser storage or player tokens.

Can someone else watch?

In an invite game, anyone opening the room after both colors are occupied becomes a spectator. Spectators can see the position and clocks but cannot move or access player chat.

Does online play support increment or delay?

The current online preset menu supports no-bonus and increment controls. It does not offer delay in online rooms. The shared room state applies the selected timing behavior to both players.

Does online play work on phones?

Yes. Open the room in a current mobile browser. Each player uses their own screen, and the board, clocks and controls adapt to narrower layouts.

Is this a ranked chess service?

No. Games are casual and unranked. There is no Elo calculation, public leaderboard or claim that a room result is tournament-certified.
