Play on the board
Select a white piece to reveal its legal destinations, then choose a highlighted square. The board handles check, castling, en passant, promotion, checkmate, stalemate, repetition, insufficient material and the fifty-move rule. The clock begins with your first completed move unless you start it earlier.
Review the rhythm
The move sheet keeps the game sequence beside the running clock. Use repeated games at one control to notice when you rush simple moves or spend too much time in familiar positions; saved results can then contribute to dashboard trends.
Design a repeatable AI session
Choose one AI level, one time control, and one process goal for at least three games. A useful goal is observable, such as checking every opponent threat before choosing candidates or retaining two minutes for the ending. Keep color and settings stable so comparisons mean something. The local AI is a consistent practice partner, but its difficulty label is not an Elo estimate. Measure whether your routine improved rather than treating a single win as proof that the level is mastered.
Use the automatic clock switch deliberately
On the AI board, completing a legal move transfers the active clock automatically. That removes the physical press but preserves the cost of thinking. Before moving, verify that the destination is legal and that you are ready to end your turn. Watch the move sheet and active-side indicator after the AI replies. If the engine responds quickly, do not adopt its pace. Your goal is to make sound decisions inside your chosen bank, not to match the computation speed of local JavaScript.
Review without treating the AI as an oracle
Identify the first position where your process failed, save the move sequence, and classify the issue as tactical vision, candidate selection, calculation, evaluation, or time allocation. The compact engine can expose mistakes, but it can also miss long ideas outside its search horizon. Investigate surprising moves with board analysis rather than assuming the engine is authoritative. Repeat a similar session with the same settings and look for a behavior change. That makes the AI a diagnostic tool instead of a source of unexplained verdicts.
